Why do we have Ceremonies to Commemorate War

Ceremonies to commemorate war play a significant role in honoring those who have served to protect our freedoms. ANZAC DAY

ANZAC DAY is commemorated each year on the 25th of April. A Dawn Service is held in the lower carpark adjacent to the Greenbank Memorial Gardens, the Service commences at 0530hrs followed by a gunfire breakfast in the Greenbank Services Club, (The gunfire breakfast is provided free to Sub-Branch members plus 1) The Main service begin with a March past down Anzac Ave, the veteran step off at 1000hrs to the applause of the cheering crowds. After the completion of the march and everyone is seated the Main Service begins from approximately 1030hrs.

VIETNAM VETERANS DAY

On the 18th of August every year, we pay tribute to the brave men and women who served in the Vietnam War as we commemorate Vietnam Veterans’ Day. This special day holds significant importance as it marks the anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan that took place in 1966. We take the time to remember and honor the sacrifices made by those who tragically lost their lives in combat, as well as recognize the resilience and dedication of the almost 60,000 Australians who were deployed during the Vietnam War. It is a day in which we express appreciation to those who served and acknowledge the enduring impact that their service has had on our nation’s history. A service dedicated to the fallen soldiers is held annually in the serene and tranquil surroundings of the Greenbank Memorial Gardens. The solemn ceremony commences at 1100 hours and serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifice made by our veterans.

REMEMBERANCE DAY

Remembrance Day is a special occasion that takes place every year, precisely on the 11th of November. During this day, people from all over the world take a moment to remember the soldiers who died during all wars and conflicts or whilst serving their country. To pay tribute to these brave men and women, a solemn ceremony is organized at the Greenbank Memorial Gardens each year. However, to make sure that you don’t miss any part of this moving event, it is important that you arrive in good time and secure your position before 10:45 am. This is because the ceremony starts promptly before 11:00 am, which is when the customary one minute of silence is observed by everyone present. So, don’t forget to plan your arrival time accordingly so that you can pay your respects to the fallen heroes.

MIDDDLE EAST AND PEACEKEEPERS DAY

Middle East and Peacekeepers Day is a special day that holds a significant place in the hearts of all those who have served in the Australian Defence Force. It was established as a way to honor those brave men and women who have selflessly dedicated their lives to protect and serve the nation. The day is dedicated to recognizing the services of all the Australian Defence Forces veterans who have served in overseas conflicts since the Vietnam War. It provides an opportunity to appreciate their sacrifices, bravery, and dedication to the nation.
This day is especially relevant to those who have served in the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts and various peacekeeping services across the world. The effort of all the young veterans is crucial in developing this day to ensure that every soldier is appreciated and recognized for their sacrifices.
