Ceremonies honouring war veterans play a crucial role in recognising the individuals who defended our freedoms. They serve as powerful reminders of the sacrifices and courage displayed by those who fought, paying tribute to the many who lost their lives and expressing gratitude to current and former Defence Members. These events bring our community together, allowing us to show appreciation and ensuring that the legacies of our veterans remain alive in our hearts. Ultimately, these ceremonies deepen our understanding of the cost of freedom and the sacrifices made to secure it.
2026
ANZAC DAY
ANZAC Day is observed annually on the 25th of April. A Dawn Service is held in the lower car park adjacent to the Greenbank RSL Sub-Branch Memorial Gardens at 54 Anzac Avenue, Hillcrest, Qld 4118, commencing at 5:30 am. Following the Dawn Service, a gunfire breakfast is provided at the Greenbank Services Club, complimentary for Sub-Branch members and one guest. The main ceremony features a march along Anzac Avenue, with veterans stepping off at 10:00 AM to the applause of the assembled crowd. Once the march concludes and attendees are seated and in position, the main service commences at 10:30 am.
VIETNAM VETERANS DAY
Each year on August 18th, we pay tribute to the courageous men and women who served in the Vietnam War on Vietnam Veterans' Day. This occasion commemorates the sacrifices and contributions made by these veterans. It serves to honour the memory of those who lost their lives and to acknowledge the nearly 60,000 Australians who were deployed during the conflict. Furthermore, this day provides an opportunity to express our gratitude for their service and to recognise its enduring impact on our nation. An annual ceremony is conducted at the Greenbank RSL Sub-Branch Memorial Gardens at 11:00 am to honour and remember our veterans.
REMEMBERANCE DAY
Remembrance Day is observed annually on the 11th of November. On this day, we take a moment to honour the soldiers who lost their lives in wars and conflicts while serving. A solemn ceremony is held each year at the Greenbank RSL Sub-Branch Memorial Gardens to pay tribute to these courageous men and women. The service begins around 10:45 am, and at 11:00 am, a traditional one-minute of silence is observed by all present. Therefore, it is advisable to plan one’s arrival time accordingly to show respect for the fallen heroes.
MIDDDLE EAST AND PEACEKEEPERS DAY
Middle East and Peacekeepers Day honours the brave individuals who served in the Australian Defence Force, recognising their contributions in overseas conflicts since the Vietnam War. This day particularly addresses the sacrifices of veterans from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars and various peacekeeping missions, ensuring that every soldier receives the appreciation they deserve. The ceremony is held in the Greenbank RSL Sub-Branch Memorial Gardens at 11.00 am on the 2nd Saturday in September.
